In August 2022, the museum was officially incorporated as the "Museo de Historia Natural y Conservación de Puerto Rico" by the Puerto Rico Department of State. This legal recognition ensures the museum's identity and establishes guidelines for its operation, including transparency, accountability, and adherence to applicable laws.

The organization has obtained non-profit tax exemption certification 501(c)(3) in the United States and Puerto Rico non-profit tax exemption certification 1101.01(a)(2)(A)(viii) as a museum entity.
